IE-only websites are an unfortunate reality on the net. They are especially prevalent on the corporate intranet where I work, where the slogan "thou shalt only use IE" is seen in full effect. I use Firefox as my primary browser, and was getting really tired of having to constantly switch to the desktop, find IE, copy & paste an URL from Firefox, and continue browsing in IE.
I recently noticed a Firefox extension called IE View that lets you effortlessly launch IE from within Firefox. It gives you several options:
- You can right-click while hovering over a link, and an "Open link target in IE" option appears in the menu.
- You can reload the current page into IE by right-clicking and selecting "View this page in IE".
- My favorite feature: You can create a list of URLs that should always be opened in IE. I just added all the typical intranet sites I need, and I never have to think about it again.
It is primarily useful on Windows, although the homepage gives an example of how to make it work on Linux with WINE.
